IN THE AREA

As you step into Gogwell’s boot room, the right-hand wall is papered with OS Maps of the area which show what a wonderfully positioned house it is. It is great for walkers as there are footpaths in all directions.

Exe Valley Way

One of the best walks takes you from Gogwell, down the back drive, to the Exe Valley and onto Bickleigh Village. This is a sign posted walk down the east bank of the River Exe, much of it through rich oak and ash woodland. In the spring Backswood is carpeted with bluebells.
This is Stage 5 of the Exe Valley Way. In Bickleigh Village cross the bridge (Simon and Garfunkel’s - Bridge Over Troubled Water) and have a well-earned drink in the Fisherman’s Cott, or The Bickleigh Mill serves delicious Devon cream teas.
If you would like to walk to Bickleigh but not back, taxis are available from Frankie’s Taxis - 01884 255333
See below for more walks around Bickleigh up to the Castle and beyond: Popular Bickleigh Walks

Pub Walk

Butterleigh Pub is a 1.7 mile walk from the house. You set off with the swimming pool on the left, down the footpath, through the field,
and follow the country lanes down to Butterleigh Village and the pub.

10km Circular Walk

There is a 10km circular walk from Gogwell, down to the River Exe, back through Tiverton to the canal and through Manley Farm, returning to Gogwell up the front drive.

Grand Western Canal

The Grand Western Canal is at the bottom of Newte's Hill which is less than a mile from Gogwell.
The canal is a gentle pleasure through beautiful country side, it’s lovely for walking, cycling and lots of boating activity.
