Exe Valley Way Accommodation in Mid-Devon
One of the best walks from Gogwell House goes from the back drive down to the Exe Valley and on to Bickleigh village. It is stage five of the Exe Valley Way.
The Walk to Bickleigh
It is a signposted walk down the east bank of the River Exe, much of it through rich oak and ash woodland. In spring Backswood is carpeted with bluebells.
In Bickleigh village, cross the bridge and have a well-earned drink in the Fisherman's Cot, which overlooks the River Exe and Bickleigh Bridge. Bickleigh Mill serves delicious Devon cream teas. If you would like to walk to Bickleigh but not back, taxis are available from Frankie's Taxis.
More Walks from the House
There are footpaths in all directions. A 10km circular walk goes from Gogwell down to the River Exe, back through Tiverton to the canal and through Manley Farm, returning up the front drive. The Butterleigh Inn is a walk of around two miles.
Gogwell also owns three miles of salmon and trout fishing on the east bank of the River Exe.
