Wedding Weekend Accommodation in Devon

Wedding Weekend Accommodation in Devon

Gogwell House and Buzzards House each sleep 14 in the Mid-Devon countryside, which makes either one a practical base for a wedding party staying together under one roof.

Staying together for the wedding weekend

A wedding weekend works best when the family and friends closest to the couple can all stay in one place. Gogwell has eight bedrooms, usually set up as five superking beds and two twin rooms. A dressing room holds two small beds for children and we also have a cot. There are four bathrooms, with showers in all and baths in two.

Getting ready and getting together

The kitchen at Gogwell opens into the dining room, onto the veranda and out to the garden. It has an Aga, two extra ovens and hobs, two dishwashers and an American fridge. There are two sitting rooms with open fires and a wood burning stove in the dining room, so every part of the party has somewhere to settle.

The veranda is covered in grape vine and looks over the croquet lawn. Guests use it for breakfasts, lunches, barbecues and cocktails.

Somewhere apart from the main party

The barn, 12 metres from the main house, has a superking bedroom on the ground floor with an en-suite bathroom and French windows onto the garden. It suits anyone who would like to stay a little apart from the main party, as well as guests who prefer a ground floor room or use a wheelchair.

Food for a crowd

There are lots of cooks in the area who will come to Gogwell and cook for a group. Chefs who have cooked at Gogwell include Sarah Watson, Flora Bartlett, Le Frog and La Petite Bouchee. Sarah Watson's drop-off menu works well if you want to minimise cooking during your stay.

Buzzards House as a second house

Buzzards House sleeps 14 and is arranged around an oak-floored open-plan hub with a wood burning stove, deep sofas and a large oak dining table. A conservatory beside the Little Dart and a south facing veranda give a group room to spread out. Booking both houses for the same weekend is a way to host a larger wedding party. Ask us about availability.

Getting here

Both houses are around three hours from London by car, or just under two hours by train plus a short drive. Dogs are welcome at both houses, though we do not allow pets upstairs.

Planning an event at the house?

If you are planning anything beyond a stay, such as a rehearsal dinner, a morning-after brunch or a gathering at the house, please get in touch before you book so we can talk it through.
